BERTIE'S DINER
Saturday 28th August 2010 7:13 PM
The crew and ground control team from the Starship Albatross took a break from their rigorous training schedule recently to enjoy an evening of 50's & 60's style food and music in Bertie's Diner in Morley. The evening reflected the theme of Return To The Forbidden Planet, which features a host of well known music from that era.
The flight team, (who are also members of MAOS) are due to launch their mission at 7.15 pm on Wednesday the 22nd of September and will continue their flight until Saturday the 25th.
The crew are approaching the final 3 weeks of training to hone their minds and bodies to the peak of human perfection, as during their flight they will experience periods of weightlessness and encounter attacks from asteroids, space monsters and will have to deal with crash landings.
Back on earth Billy Pearce will assist the crew on their flight with updates and commentary in the form of pre recorded broadcasts beamed from Mission Control, where all the ground crew will wait with baited breath as the flight unfolds.
The ground crew are short of helpers and anyone with an interest in back stage work and front of house duties should contact MAOS immediately. They are particularly keen to recruit people with a talent or interest in sewing to assist with the making of uniforms and costumes for the crew (MAOS are keen to point out that volunteers will not be required to test the uniforms themselves).

UFO SPOTTED OVER MORLEY CRICKET CLUB
Monday 2nd August 2010 4:59 PM
The mystery can now be revealed. The UFO was a model of the Starship Albatross being filmed for our forthcoming production. Four grown men, an assortment of fireworks and various pieces of string were used to simulate the take off as the 5 foot model rocket was hoisted aloft over the cricket club winter nets. The horizontal flight was achieved by filming the rocket on top of a moving van. The results are surprisingly authentic (in a 1950's "B" movie sort of way). No animals were harmed during the filming of the sequences.
To see the end results make sure you book your tickets for Return to the Forbidden Planet as soon as possible.

KID'S CLUB CONCERT
Saturday 24th July 2010 9:39 AM
The future of Morley Amateur Operatic Society is in safe hands based on the excellent performances from all the 'Kids Club' members last weekend.
The 15 members of the group performed a variety of songs, dance routines and sketches on Friday and Saturday at St Mary's Church Hall to an appreciative audience made up of family, friends and society members.
The production was directed by Ann Lockwood and the musical direction and staging was done by Andrew Lockwood. The comedy routines were written and improvised by the young cast themselves.
Ann and her son Andrew run the Saturday morning 'Kids Club' at the society's rehearsal room on Scatcherd Lane from 10am to 12noon and places are available for new members aged between 9 and 16 to join. For further details contact Ann on 0113 2852233. As well as being great fun the young members gain confidence and make new friendships as they explore the basics of stagecraft.
On introducing the cabarets, Ann said that the children were a credit to their parents and to the society. I would add that they are also a great credit to Ann and Andrew and it was clear to see that all the youngsters really appreciate their efforts and commitment.
Pictured below and in no particular order are Ashley Young, Ashley Woellner, Ben Lancaster, Charlotte Smith, Charlotte Anderson, Darcy Austin, Ellie Arundel, Elizabeth Lancaster, Eve Flaherty, Kieran Worrell, Matthew Lee, Oliver Blackburn, Rebecca Shearer, Rhian Broadbent and Vicky Winterburn.
